Tackling Traffic & Building a City That Moves

Traffic shouldn’t steal time from our families, our businesses, or our daily lives. For too long, Issaquah has struggled with congestion, delayed repairs, and slow planning while growth keeps accelerating. As your Councilmember, I will make mobility a top priority - because if we can’t move safely and efficiently, nothing else in our city works.

That means fixing our streets right the first time with durable repairs, not quick patches that fail. It means making intersections safer so parents feel confident walking their kids to school and seniors can cross without fear. It means investing in real options beyond cars - safe sidewalks, bike lanes, and reliable transit that connect every neighborhood.

Two of our biggest traffic choke points are SR 900 and Front Street. SR 900 is a critical commuter and freight corridor where congestion slows everyone down, while Front Street remains a daily frustration for drivers and businesses trying to move through downtown. To solve these problems, Issaquah must work closely with WSDOT to improve traffic flow, expand capacity where needed, and design safer crossings for people walking and biking. At the same time, local planning must reduce cut-through traffic and deliver real relief for residents.

With Sound Transit’s light rail expansion coming by 2044 - or sooner if we push harder - we must prepare now. Issaquah cannot afford to wait until the trains arrive. We need park-and-ride solutions, feeder routes, and neighborhood links that make light rail work for everyone on day one.

Another critical piece is real-time traffic management. Today, drivers sit in unnecessary backups because signals don’t adapt to conditions. I will advocate for investing in our police department to ensure we have a dedicated traffic control officer monitoring conditions and adjusting flow in real time. This investment will improve response to crashes, reduce gridlock, and make our streets safer and more efficient.

I am proud to be endorsed by the Eastside Business Alliance and the King County Realtors, who recognize that solving traffic is not only about convenience but also about economic vitality. Reliable mobility keeps businesses thriving, makes housing more accessible, and strengthens our entire community.

I will fight for:

  • Public transit investments that reduce congestion and expand service.

  • Safe walking and biking routes designed for daily use, not just weekend recreation.

  • Smarter traffic management technology to ease bottlenecks.

  • Partnerships with WSDOT to deliver long-overdue improvements to SR 900 and I-90 access.

  • A Front Street strategy that reduces gridlock and improves flow through downtown.

  • Investment in police traffic operations, ensuring real-time signal adjustments and quicker responses.

  • Transportation planning tied to land use, so growth doesn’t overwhelm our infrastructure.

  • A “safe systems” approach that prevents crashes and saves lives.

Most importantly, I will bring your voices to the table. You’ve told me during my campaign what matters most - shorter commutes, safer streets, and real choices for how to get around. As your Councilmember, I will secure funding, build strong regional partnerships, and hold projects accountable so Issaquah moves forward - not just on paper, but on the ground.

Together, we can build a city that moves - a city where traffic no longer controls our time, but where safe, smart mobility supports our families, our economy, and our quality of life.
